FLSA Status: Exempt.
Reports To: PreConstruction Manager
Grade/Level: College degree, plus field experience.
Travel Required: Yes, as needed per project.
Work Schedule: Various.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Junior Estimator works within the PreConstruction team, supporting Project Management to ensure success as it relates to all estimating assignments associated with vendor RFQ (Request for Quote) responses and estimating. This person will assist the PreConstruction Manager / senior estimators / Project Managers in obtaining the necessary information in order to generate and send quotes to customers in a timely fashion.

Essential Functions:
  • Prepare quotes by gathering necessary information from senior estimator(s) PMs.
  • Preparing Bid & Proposal Status Report for B&P Status Meetings
  • Prepare RFQ package to be estimated by gathering related specifications from customer and related documents.
  • Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Acquiring and managing all bidding documents (plans, specs, addendums)
  • Researching bid specs for bidding requirements
  • Assist in Sourcing subcontractors to bid
  • Draft and email clear quotes including accurate details needed to receive pricing from capable suppliers.
  • Effectively communicate with suppliers, customers, and co-workers to obtain information necessary to complete pre-quoting tasks both via e-mail and/or over the phone. Maintain communication on status of all quotes.
  • Identify material and time requirements by communicating with estimating team and customer.
  • Send completed quotations via email to customers by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information.
  • Maintain RFQ files by converting, organizing, and saving information according to the company’s electronic system.
  • Knowledge of Company’s capacity, capabilities, possibilities and/or limitations of our processes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of trends/technology of the industry.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results while maintaining a positive and professional company image.

Position Qualifications:
  • 2-year degree plus construction industry experience. 4-year degree in Construction Management or similar degree a plus.
  • Experience in utilizing Auto/CAD and other drafting tools preferred.
  • Ability to read drawings and analyze specifications.
  • Tracking new jobs to bid from multiple sources (e.g., SAM.GOV, PIEE).
  • Must have math skills- multiplication, division, percentages, fractions, conversion of units of measure.
  • Effective and professional communication skills-verbal and written.
  • Detail oriented, ability to multitask, and have flexibility.
  • Time management skills, ability to prioritize responsibilities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations such as heavy/varying workload and order accuracy.
  • Logical troubleshooting skills.
  • Possess a working understanding of estimating, cost accounting and labor costs associated with construction.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of precision on detailed work.
  • High sense of urgency to complete assigned tasks.
  • Strong accountability for delivery of promised actions and a reputation for prompt follow-up.
  • Prior experience and thorough knowledge of federal contracts is a must.
  • Design-Build experience required.
  • USACE, NAVFAC, GSA, DOD, DOI experience required.
  • General Contractors License, a plus.

Strong Computer Skills:
  • Microsoft Project/Primavera, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Adobe/Bluebeam or similar programs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Various construction projects using a variety of construction systems, in different environments and regional areas. Work will consist of, but not be limited to general and specialized construction including new construction, interior/exterior renovations/rehabilitations, tenant improvements and system upgrades.

Other Requirements:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be worn as part of the safety precautions, when visiting construction sites. Work may involve climbing to elevated locations, going into trenches, confined spaces, environments with extreme temperatures, irregular walking surfaces, and a wide range of potential construction hazards.
